Jason Tolley
My formal training is in electronics and my company ROK was founded in 1996 as a business software company, having learnt coding as part of electronics and realizing the potential of software in a previous technical sales role and business owner.
Today the majority of our revenue comes from the development of business software and related consulting, but if you look at the past you will see a deep expertise in embedded systems and if you look at our new ventures they are mix of electronics and enterprise computing. This reflects my history and training, where the line between hardware and software is very small and blurry and you had to master both to be a competent and respected engineer.
We assist clients by understanding their need, formalizing it through a formal project assessment process and defining goals, objectives, motivators and KPI's. All of this is independent of the technology we use including the software languages, tools, hardware and operating environment. So many start with the technology aspects of the project first, however, experience has taught us that the technology is simply another parameter, like budget or delivery time.
